Arterial thoracic outlet syndrome may present as a surgical emergency. When a blood clot blocks blood flow to a part of the arm or hand, a surgeon will typically diagnose and treat the patient promptly. When not treated promptly and correctly, these patients can experience permanent loss of function of their arm or hand.
